Beschrijving MK-8931 (Verubecestat) is een krachtige en selectieve beta-secretase (ook bekend als Beta-site APP-cleaving enzyme 1) remmer.

In vitro Verubecestat (MK-8931) vermindert effectief Aβ40 in cellen met een Ki van 7,8 nM en een IC50 van 13 nM.
In Vivo Verubecestat (MK-8931) verlaagt drastisch CSF en cortex Aβ40 in zowel ratten als cynomolgusapen na een enkele orale dosis. Vanwege de halfwaardetijd van 20 uur is deze verbinding ideaal voor eenmaal daagse dosering.
