Beschrijving	Cepharanthine (NSC-623442) is een biscoclaurine alkaloïde dat tumornecrosefactor (TNF)-α-gemedieerde NFκB-stimulatie, lipideperoxidatie van het plasmamembraan en plaatjesaggregatie remt en de cytokineproductie onderdrukt.
In vitro	Behandeling van SaOS2-cellen met Cepharanthine (CEP) (2,5-20 μmol/L) remt de celgroei op een concentratie- en tijdsafhankelijke manier. CEP (10 μmol/L) veroorzaakte celcyclusarrest in de G(1)-fase en induceerde Apoptosis van SaOS2-cellen. CEP (10 en 15 μmol/L) vermindert de expressie van STAT3 in SaOS2-cellen significant. Bovendien remt CEP (5 en 10 μmol/L) de expressie van doelgenen van STAT3 significant, inclusief het anti-apoptotische gen Bcl-xL en de celcyclusregulatoren c-Myc en cycline D1.
In Vivo	Bij naakte muizenxenografts van SaOS2-cellen vermindert Cepharanthine (CEP) (20 mg •kg(-1) •d(-1), ip gedurende 19 d) het volume en gewicht van de tumor significant.
